What does passion mean to you? At first you might think about how you feel about a special person in your life. That certainly can bring feelings of passion.
What other things can make you feel passionate?
First, think about how you feel when you are passionate. What is that like for you?
We know some things about what passion feels like. For instance, when you feel passionate about something or are engaged in what you are doing, you are able to concentrate and focus. You may even be unaware of your feelings in the moment. In fact, you may lose track of time because you are so caught up in what you are doing.
The benefits of feeling passionate are numerous.
For instance, when this happens to you, your level of happiness increases. You feel invigorated because you are usually using your strengths, living your values and being authentic. You feel like life is meaningful and engaging. Your outlook on life is positive and is contagious. Others enjoy being around you and look for chances to connect with you.
Life has it's ups and downs. Passion can come and go. The important thing to remember is if it isn't present now, you can make choices that will bring it back. The following 4 tips will help you feel more passionate and engaged at work and in your personal life:
- For engagement to be present in your life or your work, you need to find a way to use some of your top strengths on a daily basis.
- In addition, there needs to be an optimal balance between the challenge and skill level of the activity you are doing. The amount of challenge must be close to your skill level. If there is too much challenge or too low a skill level, you will feel overwhelmed. As you become more skilled, the challenge needs to increase so you do not get bored.
- Your work needs to be exciting to you in some way. Maybe you strive for feelings of accomplishment, or you look for ways to continually learn more about what you are doing.
- As you find more meaning in your life and what you are doing, you will be more motivated. When your leaders and manager inspire confidence in the future of the organization and are clear how you can contribute to its success, life feels even more meaningful. You feel more engaged in your life and passionate.
High levels of motivation lead to engagement and feelings of passion. An additional bonus is these same tips apply in your personal life as well. In fact, you may find it easier to practice them outside of a work situation. Once you are comfortable doing them, they easily transfer to other areas of your life.
The rewards of passion and engagement are tremendous. Whether your feelings are short-lived or longer, you benefit from this type of happiness. Passion builds positive emotions or psychological capital that further inspires and motivates you to move forward in your life.
Begin with doing something that allows you to use one or more of your strengths. Specific activities you choose to do daily will allow you to experience this level of passion and engagement in your life. Choose carefully and enjoy your results.
To your success,
